A Woman Cuddling her Baby

Sing while Feeding your baby

Feeding time provides an excellent opportunity for early bonding with your newborn and can also be beneficial for their language development. Utilise this one-on-one time to sing and converse with your baby in the target language.

Here are some helpful tips:

  • Select simple and soothing lullabies and rhymes in the target language.
  • Sing in a soft and gentle tone, as this can help the baby create a positive association with the target language.
  • Repeat the same songs during feeding sessions, and ensure that the feeding environment is calm and free from distractions.
  • Pay attention to your babies so you can find out which songs they prefer.
  • To create a sense of familiarity, make singing during feeding times a routine.

What should I sing to my baby?

You can sing anything you like to your baby while feeding – what matters is that they hear your voice, feel your touch and that you make plenty of eye contact with them as you sing.

Try to be as expressive as you can to engage your baby as you sing to them.

You might want to sing a traditional nursery rhyme, or you could make up your own rhymes and have some fun. Alternatively, you could sing along to your favourite artist.

It doesn’t matter if you’re not a natural singer – your baby will love it no matter what. However, if you’re not keen on singing, then you could try telling them all about your day.
