Schedule: Public tours on Saturdays, occasional private tours on Monday to Friday

Pay: £13.50 per hour

We are looking for passionate, friendly and knowledgeable Walking Tour Guides keen to take on freelancing work on a routine basis, starting in April 2024.

The walking tours are specifically showcasing Yoruba heritage and culture in Southwark borough so knowledge of this would be advantageous, although you will receive full training.

Working with us, you’ll get the chance to guide both small group tours (maximum 12 people) and private walking tours around Southwark borough in London. Tours will last between 2 and 3 hours usually, but we will also deliver 4-6 hour private tours from time to time.

Essential attributes:

  • An enthusiastic interest in Yoruba culture and history.
  • A friendly, jovial person with a positive attitude.
  • Highly developed customer-relation skills.
  • An excellent communicator who can clearly enunciate and project your voice and deliver information to guests from different backgrounds.
  • Excellent presentation and timekeeping.
  • Ability to interact with various types of people and personalities with ease.
  • Ability to think on your feet and adapt to different situations quickly and easily.
  • Ability to keep a group’s attention and entertain/educate them with fun facts about the tour and the locals.
  • Ability to work on Saturdays, and potentially weekdays as needed.
  • Ability to follow a specific routine/path to ensure consistency and quality of the tour experience.
  • Ability and flexibility to adapt to new routes and constant self-education and research to improve tours.
  • Ability to always remain professional and present yourself in a positive, well-groomed manner.
  • Ability to absorb and retain information quickly.
  • Comfortable standing and walking for 3+ hours while leading the tour.
  • Legally authorised to work in the UK

Desirable attributes:

  • Southwark Resident or someone who knows the area well.
  • Tour guiding experience
