African Spotlight: Seyi Oluyole’s Dream Catchers Academy

Seyi Oluyole, the founder and executive director of Dream Catchers Academy, is a visionary leader who is committed to improving the lives of children in neglected communities. In addition to being the founder of Dream Catchers Academy, she is also the founder of the Dream Nurture Foundation, which is dedicated to meeting the needs of underprivileged children.

Her passion for dance and the arts led her to establish a dance and arts organization for street children upon her return to Nigeria from the United States eight years ago. Today, her vision is a reality, and she is using her talents to pave the way for education and a better, more sustainable future for young girls in Nigeria.

Dream Catchers Academy is a non-profit organisation based in Ikorodu, Lagos, Nigeria, that aims to provide orphaned girls with a holistic education, including arts, music, dance, and life skills. The Academy was established in 2014 with the objective of transforming the lives of young girls who have experienced abuse, neglect, or economic difficulties.

The Academy offers a well-rounded education that not only focuses on academics but also on developing creative expression through the arts and fostering essential life skills. The academic program is designed to prepare female students for higher education and beyond, while the arts program provides a platform for the girls to express themselves creatively through dance, music, and theatre. Additionally, the life skills program equips the girls with knowledge on essential topics such as financial literacy, health, and hygiene.

The humanitarian, fondly called Aunty Seyi, is making a positive impact on the world by paving the way for a better future for Nigerian children. She rescues some street children and provides them with a better life by teaching them painting, dancing, and music. The majority of the proceeds from their performances are used to further their education.

The Dream Catchers Academy currently has 339,000 followers on TikTok and 309,000 on Instagram and has gained the attention of celebrities such as Rihanna through their social media pages. Seyi Oluyole believes that every girl child deserves an opportunity, regardless of their background. She is working hard to make this possible in Nigeria.
